The Thymus Glands:

This gland is situated inside our upper chest area. It produces certain hormones that are believed to support our immune system in some way by helping the white blood cells function better. The thymus gland is place where certain types of immature white blood cells gather and grow up into matured white blood cells in order to fight disease.

When we are children, our thymus gland works very healthily and actively. But when we grow up into adult, our thymus gland works less and less and begin to weaken. As we become elderly, according scientist, many of us may have thymus glands that work very little, or not at all. If this happens, we may have fewer and less effective white blood cells in our body, and many infections may be able to attack us easily.
